Gardar EIDE EINARSSON I Caused Dreams Which Caused Death. This is my Crime
Opening on Wednesday, September 9, 6 pm to 9 pm On view until November 7, Wednesday to Saturday, 2 pm to 7 pm
For his first exhibition at BUGADA & CARGNEL gallery, Norwegian artist living in New York City Gardar EIDE EINARSSON will show a set of new pieces – paintings, photographs and sculpture – through which he keeps exploring, in a wry and minimalist way, society's dubious recesses.
Whether he transposes into large black and white paintings book covers from alternative litterature, themselves taking after post-war abstract painting, or enlarges unexpectedly conceptual pictures taken from police instruction leaflets, whether he reproduces portraits of petty criminals published in newspapers and verging on modernism, or recreates a home-made barbecue grill from American South that seems inspired by his own work, EIDE EINARSSON revisits a fascinating iconography, while questioning this very fascination.
