> DESCRIPTION

Chilean artist Sebastian Mahaluf will present his work "Triangle: position, displacement and distance", on Saturday, October 24th at Platform China Contemporary Art Institute.

With an installation of silver elastic bands, Mahaluf continues developing his line of research on the characteristics of the spaces, to take advantage of interior space to developing, objectifying and de-fragmenting its architecture in reference to geometry. The work consists of the partition and accumulation of silver elastic bands, arrayed in inclined and ascending form, and displayed over the walls and ground of the gallery. By putting one over another will create hundreds of triangles that will be integrated into the architecture and create the illusion of perspective. This way the space will be fully open and exposed. The illusion of perspective will be slightly visible, emphasizing the opportunity of interacting, illusory, with the observer. This interaction will allow to capture and control the attention of the viewer while moving through the work. The logic applied to the construction of the work allows space becoming a measurable and - at the same time - intangible matter.

Sebastian Mahaluf (Santiago de Chile, 1976) is an artist and professor in visual arts. He received his Master of Visual Arts Degree from University of Chile. His work has been exhibited since 1998 in Chile and other countries. He has had solo exhibitions at Die Ecke Gallery in 2008, National Museum of Arts in 2007, Animal Gallery in 2004, in Chile. In China he has participated in 798 Beijing Biennale and 10th International Festival of Performance Open, both in 2009. He is currently doing a residency program at the Platform China Contemporary Art Institute in Beijing.
