“made in china” is an exhibition by Erik M Hemingway and Allison Warren that brings their research in China into a multi-media experience by virtually bringing the urban spaces of Beijing to the I_space gallery in Chicago.
One installation in the exhibition incorporates common white rice bags, sewn and stretched into an architectural projection wall with three scales of urban evidence. Nine video monitors sample interviews conducted at B.A.S.E. 4.0 [Beijing Architectural Studio Enterprise] founded and run by the Los Angeles architects Robert Mangurian and Mary- Ann Ray. Drawings and constructs of three dimensional industrial artifacts and postcard questionnaires, in addition to a live feed of interviews ongoing will question the use of the gallery as a data collecting opportunity for a future book on this event driven experience.
